With the announcement today that schools in North Carolina will not resume until May 15, 2020, parents are needing something to occupy and hopefully help their now homeschooled student stay focused on learning. NC 4-H has many projects that youth can do but we want to share some other resources with our families. Of course, you can always call me for some 4-H curriculum that I can mail to you or get resources to you to help your student out but I want to make sure you have some options outside of 4-H as well.

First some NC 4-H resources. 4-H agents across North Carolina have put together some great programs that are going to be fun for your whole family while you are enjoying your social distancing time. Join them on the North Carolina 4-H Facebook page to access all the fun. Information is also on our N.C. Cooperative Extension, Cherokee County Center page as a news article titled NC 4-H Daily Spark.

Electric projects that can be done easily at home. This is Haven Phillips participating during a 4-H School Enrichment Electric Project.

Another great resource, let me rephrase that, another great fun resource to keep students engaged in STEM activities at home is SciGirls and it is not just for girls, the whole family can get involved. Below are some fun activities from SciGirls that students can have fun with and still be learning.

SciGirls Activities to Explore STEM at Home!

SciGirls is not a 4-H group but they do have great resources for families and that is what we want to do is keep our youth learning while our clubs can’t meet face to face so be sure to check out other things on their website while your there.

So if you want some travel time while never leaving home, virtual tours are everywhere. Our youth can explore museums with priceless works of art, enjoy the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, visit the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago with no plane ticket, watch animals at the zoo and there is no smell when you are online, there are 30 different places to visit on this one site, check or click it out:  Goodhousekeeping 30 Amazing Virtual Tours
